Economic Activity Up 3.2%

Transport, storage and communications, public administration and financial intermediation, are part of the sectors that in August explained in Panama the 3.2% growth in the IMAE.

The transportation and communications services presented favorable results, because of the operations of the expanded Panama Canal, the movement of international passengers by air and telecommunications, informed the General Comptroller of the Republic.

The official document states that "... It was observed that among the categories of economic activity that showed a favorable behavior were: transportation, storage and communications, public administration, financial intermediation, agriculture, construction, electricity and water, mining and quarrying, and domestic services.

The agricultural sector registered an increase in items such as banana cultivation, melon and cattle breeding.

The category of electricity and water supply showed a good performance because of the greater generation of thermal energy with the participation of the new generation of electricity from natural gas. On the other hand, trade registered a growth affected by the low activity in the Colon Free Zone.

Economic Activity Accelerated in July

September 2019

During the seventh month of this year economic activity in Panama registered a 3.6% year-on-year increase, which is higher than the 3% reported in the previous month.

Among the categories of economic activity that showed a favorable behavior were: agriculture, transportation, storage and communications, financial intermediation, domestic services, construction, mining and quarrying, public administration and electricity and water, informed the General Comptroller's Office of Panama.

Panama: IMAE Grows by 9.42%

In the period January-August 2012, the Monthly Economic Activity Index, rose by 9.42% compared to the same period in 2011.

A statement from the Controller General reads:

The sectors that performed best were: construction, mining and quarrying, community activities, social and personal services, hotels and restaurants, transport, storage and communications, electricity and water, manufacturing, trade, financial intermediation, private health and public administration, among others, while fishing continues to show a negative variation.
