Dominican Republic: Tourist Arrivals Decline 11%

During July of this year, 591,348 tourists arrived in the country, 11% less than the figure reported in the same month of 2018.

Regarding the case of the arrival of non-resident passengers to the Dominican Republic (foreigners and Dominicans) in July 2019, it is observed that the same was 591,348 visitors, which meant a reduction of 74,321 passengers compared to the same month in 2018, informed the Central Bank.

The Central Bank's document summarizes "... Adding the influx of resident travelers, the total arrival of resident and non-resident passengers by air during the January-July 2019 period was 4,542,015 passengers, for a 1.7% year on year variation, which represented 74,862 additional passengers compared to the same period in 2018.

When analyzing the accumulated influx of tourists during the January-July 2019 period, according to regions of residence, it is observed that 63.1% of visitors arrived from North America, 20.9% from Europe, 11.7% from South America, 4.0% from Central America and the Caribbean and the remaining 0.3% from Asia and the Rest of the World.

During the first seven months of 2019, the cumulative arrival of non-resident foreigners from North America shows a 2.6% year-on-year growth, equivalent to 56,575 additional visitors, most of them from the United States of America (52,937) and Mexico (7,937).

Fewer Tourists Arriving in Dominican Republic

Between January and October 2018 and the same period in 2019, the number of tourists who arrived in the country reported a 1.2% drop, which contrasts with the increases recorded years ago.

The cumulative arrival of non-resident visitors by area in the period January-October 2019 shows a total of 5,359,903 travelers, for a -1.2% variation over the same period last year, equivalent to a decrease of 64,496 tourists, reported the Central Bank.

Dominican Republic: Tourist Arrivals Stagnating

Between January and September 2018 and the same period in 2019, the number of tourists who arrived in the country did not report significant changes, behavior in contrast with the increases reported years ago.

The accumulated arrival of non-resident visitors via area to the Dominican Republic in the period January-September 2019 shows a total of 4,987,698 travelers, amount that is like the amount recorded in the same period last year, when 5,009,417 non-resident passengers entered the country, informed the Central Bank.

Tourist Arrivals Keep Increasing

From January to September of this year, the Dominican Republic registered the arrival of 5 million tourists, 6% more than the figure reported in the same period in 2017.

The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic reported that the influx of non-resident visitors in the period January-September 2018 registered the historic figure of 5,009,417 passengers, being the first time that this number of non-resident travelers is reached during the first nine months of the year, arriving 297,931 additional travelers compared to the same period of 2017, representing an accumulated year-on-year growth of 6.3%.

Tourist Arrivals Up 6% up to May 2018

June 2018

During the first five months of 2018, the Dominican Republic recorded the arrival of 2.8 million tourists, 6% more than was reported in the same period in 2017.

From a Report by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic:

The arrival of non-resident passengers by air to the Dominican Republic, including foreigners and Dominicans, registered a year-on-year growth of 7.0% in the month of May, reaching a total of 506,178 passengers, equivalent to an increase of 33,290 passengers with respect to the same month of the previous year. Within this result, the segment of foreigners presented an annualized variation of 6.0% (24,867 additional tourists) and non-resident Dominicans experienced an interannual increase of 13.7% (8,423 additional passengers).
