Dominican Republic: Manufacturing Activity on the Rise

Following the upward trend reported from October 2017 to December, the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity grew by 8% compared to the same month in 2016.

The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic reported that the index " ... remained for the third consecutive month over the barrier of 50.0, reaching 54.1 in the month of December 2017."

Regarding the behavior of the index by size of the companies, it was noted that "... small businesses (16-60 employees) went from critical behavior (30.0) in November to 59.0 in December. In contrast, large companies were located below the barrier of 50.0 points, standing at 48.7."

"... The Index, above the 50 point barrier, is considered a positive signal (depending on the weighted value it means that manufacturing activities are on the rise)."

Manufacturing Activity Falls 4%

March 2020

During January in the Dominican Republic the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity registered a 4% decrease with respect to the previous month, variation that is explained by a contraction in the volume of sales and production.

When comparing the figures with those reported at the end of 2019, an increase is registered, since in January the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM) of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) increased to 62.5, while in November 2019 it was 53.2 and went up to 58.7 in December 2019.

Manufacturing Returns to Risk Numbers

September 2019

After July's Monthly Manufacturing Activity Index in the Dominican Republic registered a 12% year-on-year increase, August reported a 5% drop with respect to the same month in 2018.

Regarding the year-on-year variation, the report details that the Monthly Manufacturing Activity Index (IMAM), prepared by the Dominican Republic Industries Association (AIRD), decreased from 64.6 in July to 60.1 in August.

Manufacturing Activity at Historical High

June 2018

Between the months of May 2017 and 2018, the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity in the Dominican Republic registered an increase of 6%, rising from 62.6 to 66.5.

The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) reported that "... The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD)'s Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM) amounted to 66.5, a historical high for the last year. It has been over the 50.0 barrier for four months."

February 2018

Between the first month of 2017 and 2018 the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity grew by 12%, and the value registered in January 2018 is the highest in the last three years.
