Dominican Republic: Manufacturing Activity Up 15%

Due to an increase in production and sales, in August of this year the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity registered an increase of 15% with respect to the same month in 2017.

The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) reported that the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM) increased slightly from 58.4 in July to 61.5 in August, remaining for the seventh consecutive month over the barrier of 50.0 and following the trend shown in previous years for this period. 

Regarding the behavior of the IMAM according to the size of the companies, medium-sized companies increased their index, going from 53.3 in July to 62.4 in August, and large ones also, going from 62.7 in July to 67.1 in August, as shown in the table number 1.  Micro and small companies descended. Micro companies went from 47.5 in July to 44.2 in August, and small ones dropped from 51.3 in July to 50.0 in August.

Regarding the variables examined, there were declines in the "inventory of raw materials", going from 60.2 to 56.8, and "delivery deadlines", going from 48.9 in July to 47.3 in August. In contrast, an increase occurred in "sales volume" which went from 62.5 to 68.2; "Production volume" which went from 62.5 to 66.9, and "employment" which went from 50.0 in July to 52.7 in August, placing all these variables above the 50.0 barrier.

After July's Monthly Manufacturing Activity Index in the Dominican Republic registered a 12% year-on-year increase, August reported a 5% drop with respect to the same month in 2018.

Explained by an increase in production and sales, in July of this year the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity registered a 12% increase compared to July 2018.

The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) reported that the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM), increased slightly from 55.6 in the month of June to 58.4 in the month of July, but remains for the sixth consecutive month over the barrier of 50.0 

Manufacturing Activity at Historical High

June 2018

Between the months of May 2017 and 2018, the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity in the Dominican Republic registered an increase of 6%, rising from 62.6 to 66.5.

The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) reported that "... The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD)'s Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM) amounted to 66.5, a historical high for the last year. It has been over the 50.0 barrier for four months."
