Dominican Republic: Manufacturing Activity Up 12%

Explained by an increase in production and sales, in July of this year the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity registered a 12% increase compared to July 2018.

Thursday, August 30, 2018

The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) reported that the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM), increased slightly from 55.6 in the month of June to 58.4 in the month of July, but remains for the sixth consecutive month over the barrier of 50.0

The Index, above the 50 point barrier is considered a positive signal (in terms of the weighted value this means that manufacturing activity is up, below 50.0 implies that manufacturing activity is down).

The report shows that in terms of the variables examined, there were declines in "employment", which went from 55.6 in June to 50.0 in July; and the "inventory of raw materials", which fell from 64.4 in June to 60.2 in July 2018. Increases were seen in "sales volume" which went from 56.7 to 62.5; "Volume of production" which went from 54.4 to 62.5 and "term of supply deliveries" which went from 46.7 to 48.9, staying for two consecutive months below the 50.0 barrier.
