Dominican Republic: Cement Consumption Up 5%

In the first half of this year, the country demanded 2.2 million metric tons of cement, a volume that exceeds by 5% the amount consumed in the same period in 2017.

According to figures from the Dominican Association of Producers of Portland Cement, the 2,196,282 metric tons consumed in the country during the first six months of the year, add up to an approximate amount of $196 million.

Elnacional.com.do reports that " ... cement production in January - June 2018 was 2,738,284 metric tons, registering an increase of 4.8% in relation to the same period of 2017, and placing its installed capacity at 79.1%."

The article adds that " ... the cement industry contributes to the dynamism registered in the construction sector, which places its growth at 13.2% during the January-June 2018 semester in relation to 2017."
