In 2017 the import value of diapers and similar items in countries in the region amounted to $277 million, of which 38% was purchased by companies in Panama and Honduras.

Imports by country 
Last year, the main buyer of diapers and similar items in Central America was Panama, with $61 million, followed by Honduras, with $55 million, Guatemala, with $44 million, El Salvador, with $42 million, Nicaragua, with $40 million and Costa Rica, with $35 million. 

Variation of regional imports 
Between 2016 and 2017 the value imported into Central America fell slightly, dropping from $285 million to $277 million, which is equivalent to a 3% decrease. 

For the years in question, regional purchases made from Mexico increased by 3%, rising from $120 million to $124 million.

Origin of imports 
In 2017, 45% of the value imported from Central America came from Mexico, 15% from the US, 4% from Peru and 2% from Colombia. 

The USA it is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most in the last six years, as in 2012 it represented 11% of the total value purchased and in 2016 this figure reached 15%.
