Diapers: Regional Purchases Increase

During the third quarter, the Central American region purchased $255 million worth of diapers, mainly from Mexico, which captured 47% of the market, with Guatemala being the main importer with $70 million.

Imports by Country
From January to September 2021 the main buyer of diapers and similar items in Central America was Mexico with 47%, followed by Costa Rica with $27 million, United States of America with 13% and Colombia 4%.

Variation in Regional Imports
For the months in question between 2020 and 2021, the value imported by Central America increased by 17%, from $218 million to $255 million.

Between 2012 and 2021, purchases made by companies in the region from Mexican companies have grown moderately, with $75 million imported in the third quarter of 2012 and $120 million in 2021.

Origin of Imports
During the third quarter of 2021, 57% of the value imported from Central America came from Mexico, 27% from Costa Rica, 13% from the U.S., 4% from Colombia and 2% from China.
