Departure Tax Up in El Salvador

As of Jan. 5 departure tax increased $ 2.27, settling at $ 40.27.

This is the second time this tax has suffered an increased during the last twelve months, according to the Immigration Department.

The tax is paid through travel agencies when a person buys a ticket to leave the country, the article in Elsalvador.com informs.

The Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), responsible for the tax, announced that taxes will increase again in 2011.

Honduran Airport Tax Highest in the Region

As soon as the law is published in the Official Gazette, the new rate will go up from $27 to $60.3.

At the moment, Panama has the highest airport fee in the region, at $40, followed by Nicaragua, $38; Guatemala, $30, Costa Rica $28, and El Salvador $20.

Representatives from the company Inter Airports, concession holder of four international airports reported that the increase is due to the "very low" rate of passenger traffic in the country.

El Salvador Raises Departure Tax

The departure tax will be increased from $32 to $34.86 on March 1st.

It is already being charged to those travelers who start their trip after March 1st.

Of the current $32, $5.14 goes to the Migration office. With the change, this entity will receive $8 per each traveler.
