Dell Expands Operations in Panama

$13 million were invested in a new building to house support operations for the Americas and the Caribbean.

A statement by the Presidency of Panama reads:

The President Ricardo Martinelli was on hand to inaugurate the new Dell building on Wednesday with an investment of more than $13 million as part of its expansion of operations in our country.

"I want to congratulate Dell for these new facilities and for its 10 years in Panama, whose contribution to the Panamanian economy has been significant", said the president.

Martinelli said that these transactions will increase the team of associates in Panama, representing a significant contribution to the country. Currently 2,800 people work for this company.

From Panama, Dell operates more than 40 business units serving customers from Canada to Argentina, including Caribbean countries.

American company, Stream, acquired the local operations of the Dell call center. The acquisition includes the labor force of over 900 workers.

The acquisition, which begun with an offer from Stream that was not revealed, is an operation with which Dell seeks to "increase the efficiency of its business and to provide greater added value to its clients."

Foreign investment in Panama increases 32.8%

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) that entered Panama during the first half of the year reached $100 million.

This is increase is due mainly to the investments and re-investment of earnings by banks with general license that are operating in the country.
The construction sector, expansions, and new port infrastructure, the new cellular bands and the electricity generation projects have also attracted huge volumes of foreign capital this year.
