Damen Shipyards Interested in "La Unión" Port.

Dutch shipbuilder Damen has expressed its interest in erecting a shipyard in Salvadoran port La Unión.

Eddie Roberto González is the director of local company "Multinaviera del Pacífico". They offered the port to the Dutch company, "to transform it in the largest shipyard of the pacific coast, developing all the extra port activities", said González.

"...delivering the new terminal to DAMEN would imply canceling the $100 million construction loan the Salvadoran State has with Japan's JBIC bank", added González, in an article in Laprensagrafica.com.

Yesterday the Vice-president of the Republic headed the first meeting of the committee established to analyze the future concession process for the Salvadoran port system.

The schedule established by the Autonomous Executive Port Commission to grant concessions for the ports of Acajutla and La Union is being delayed due to the refusal of some lawmakers to approve the Government’s proposal.
