Dairy Products From Uruguay Allowed to Enter Panama

Panamanian food authorities have given permission for six facilities to export Uruguayan dairy to that market.

On Wednesday May 22 this year, both the General Director of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay (MGAP) Alberto Castelar, and the Director of the International Affairs Unit Alejandro Mernies of the same ministry announced a new breakthrough in international integration as part of the Government's strategic guidelines in market diversification.This news was that Panamanian food safety authorities have given permission for six facilities to export Uruguayan bovine dairy products to that market.

This is being viewed as a radical improvement for the prospects of Uruguayan dairy exports with a focus on the Central American market defined as interesting by Mernies, which advocates a greater access of these goods to Panama.

Milk Over Supply in Honduras

Honduran farmers are looking for alternatives to commercialize milk in the Salvadoran market, by giving sanitary certification to artisanal dairy plants.

In light of an oversupply of milk that is affecting the Honduran livestock sector, producers are looking for neighboring markets where they can export milk. They report that many of the plants in Honduras are not receiving the surplus product because they do not have the capacity to process it.

Growing Demand for Dairy Products in China

In recent years dairy imports increased by between 20% and 30% a year, since China can not meet domestic demand with its own production.
