The Ministry of Foreign Trade (Comex) informed that on October 28, Duayner Salas, head of the institution, signed with the Consorcio Norte Sur Arquitectos, of Costa Rica, and the company C y C Asesorias Profesionales Limitada, of Santiago de Chile the contract for the design of the border control posts, whose works, as a whole, imply an intervention of an area of approximately 700,000 square meters.

The projects include work on buildings, open spaces for parking and vehicle inspection, adequate roads and other infrastructure works. The modernization of the two border posts is part of the activities of the Border Integration Program (BIP), whose Executing Agency is the Comex, and joins the processes already initiated for the checkpoints at Paso Canoas and Sabalito.

The official document emphasizes that the other component of the BIP will involve projects to improve processes and procedures at the border, and its necessary simplification and technological automation, through the intervention of IT control systems.

"Likewise, the BIP enhances the coordinated management of borders and the action of each of the border control institutions, which in the case of the south, will also lead to the exercise of integrated controls between Costa Rican and Panamanian authorities," the document explains.
