Egg Exports Grow

Figures from the Panamanian aviculturists union indicate that exports registered during 2017 exceeded those reported the previous year by 25%.

The National Association of Aviculturists details that exports of fertile eggs, mainly to countries in Central America, exceeded $5 million last year, about $1 million more than in 2016.

Prensa.com reports that "... Panama sends fertile eggs for the production of laying hens and broiler chickens to Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua and some Caribbean islands. These eggs are packed in packages of 30 dozen, each box contains 360 eggs, on average."

"... However, chicken value-added products have not been able to penetrate these markets with equal force. We require great efforts on the part of the authorities to achieve a reciprocal treatment with Panamanian exports. We can not remain indifferent to the non-tariff barriers imposed by our neighbors in Central America, putting at risk investment and jobs of Panamanian companies that have ventured into the export business, said Rosmer Jurado, president of the Association of Panamanian Exporters (APEX)."
