Costa Rican Trade Office in Peru

The Foreign Trade Promotion Office of Costa Rica is to tap a market 30 million in one of the most dynamic economies in Latin America.

A statement from the Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER) reads:

Businessmen will have access to market of 30 million inhabitants
Trade Promotion Office in Peru opens new opportunities for Costa Rican exporters

- It is the twelfth PROCOMER Promotion Office abroad.
- Exports of goods to Peru in 2011 totaled $15.8 million.

San Jose, July 27, 2012. Costa Rican businessmen will have new business options and have access to a market of more than 30 million people, through the Trade Promotion Office (PCO) that the Foreign Trade Corporation of Costa Rica (PROCOMER) will open in Peru on 1 August °. The opening of this office will promote trade with this South American nation and increase the competitiveness of Costa Rican exports.

With economic growth of 6.9% in 2011, according to the International Monetary Fund, Peru represents a new opportunity for domestic exporters because through the Free Trade Agreement which is nearing ratification, the platform for Costa Rica's foreign trade will be extended, which will enable an increase and diversification of Costa Rican exports of goods and services.

These entrepreneurs are looking for local distributors, to introduce their products to the national market.

Crecex, the Chamber of Local Representatives of Foreign Companies, will hold business rounds on September 21.

Katherinne Chaves, a Crecex executive, told newspaper La Prensa Libre that "Peruvian businessmen are interested in getting in touch with Costa Rican distributors, in order to introduce their products to our market. For this end, Crecex gives them profiles on how products move in the market, and organizes them business agendas".

Peru Interested in FTA with Panama

The Peruvian Embassy in Panama expressed interest in starting negotiations for an FTA in 2010.

Peruvian delegates expressed that a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) would be used by their country to promote the use of the Canal and Panama's geographical position. They also indicated interest in using the Colón Free Zone to re-export textile products.
