To achieve this, a cost model similar to the one for banana producers, but with adjustments for pineapples, will be used.
Currently the price for pineapples is set by the market (demand and supply) and small farmers paid for their product with prices that are unilaterally set. As a result many of them have gone bankrupt.

Two companies filed a lawsuit against the model used to set the minimum exit price for banana.

Balatana and TMF Agro submitted a complaint before the Contentious Administrative Court (Tribunal Penal Contencioso Administrativo), arguing deficiencies in how the price is calculated, and critizing the entities using it, such as Corbana (National Banana Corporation), and the Economy Ministry.
