Now with the entry into force of the trade agreement between the two nations, many others want to achieve the same goal of enjoying the benefits of free trade. Juices for children, polyethylene foam packaging materials and thermal insulation are some of the products that are sent to the South American nation.
Very soon other entrepreneurs will be exporting tea varieties, pharmaceuticals, personal care products and ointments. "We found an opportunity, as a result of the trade agreement. I visited customers and significant supermarket chains and they showed a lot of interest," said Miguel Miranda, CEO of Mondaisa, a company which will start exporting 14 out of the 40 varieties of tea on offer, especially those that do not exist in the market over there.
"We will export under the rules of the trade agreement and that gives us many advantages, they are more beneficial conditions. Peru is interesting and we could also import products at some point," said Jorge Coto, owner of Servicio de Maquila Larisa, a company that develops products for home and industrial cleaning, veterinary products and cosmetics.
The policy of immigration control of the government of Costa Rica does not match the realities imposed by recently signed trade agreements.
Miguel Miranda, owner of Mondaisa, was going to board a plane that would take him to Peru where he has business deals for exporting his products, however, because he lacked the visa that the country requires Costa Ricans to have, he had to postpone his trip, not having been aware of the requirement. After several efforts in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry and the Embassy of Peru, he was able to board a few hours later.
Meat, heart of palm, palm oil, chocolate and cocoa products, and tea produced in Costa Rica, will have preferential access to the Peruvian market.
From a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Trade:
