Costa Rica tourism betting on regional visitors

Markets in Central America, Mexico, and South America will be the next objective to counter the crisis in the United States and Europe.

The ICT (Costa Rica Institute of Tourism) says that next year it will have more resources to invest in tourism advertising. This is estimate to be at some $20 million.
"We have turn more to our closest neighbors as well as to South America which has a great potential for getting visitors. This will happen whenever a tourism product with appealing prices is offered," pointed out Patricia Duar, executive director of the Costa Rican Association of Tourism Professionals.

Costa Rica Wants to Attract European Tourists

On 13 May, Costa Rican businessmen will meet at a business forum in which they will study strategies to position Costa Rica as a destination for the European market.

From a press release by the National Chamber of Tourism of Costa Rica (CANATUR):

The European region represents one of the main markets for attracting tourists to Costa Rica, which, according to figures from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), received 284,996 visitors from Europe, which means about 12% of total reported income in 2012.

Ministers meet in bid to project Central America as a single tourist destination

Central American tourism ministers are meeting today and tomorrow in Honduras as they seek ways to promote the region as a destination.

The meeting will study approaches to cruise-ship lines, charter airlines and travel wholesalers to promote Central America as a single destination. The ministers also aim to seek technical assistance from Europe with a view to improving the industry's management.
