Costa Rica hosts XIV Microenterprise Forum

The American Forum on Microenterprise (Foromic) will be held in San José, the Costa Rican capital, between 10 and 12 October this year.

The event is organized by the Multilateral Investment Fund Inter-AmericanDevelopment Bank (FOMIN) in collaboration with the Costa Rican Ministries of Finance, Economy, Trade and Industry.

A central theme of this year's Foromic will be access and inclusion of micro and small producers in economic activity via improved access to financial services, markets for their products and basic services. Also under discussion are issues such as public policy for micro-businesses, transparency in the micro-finance sector, micro-franchising, clean energy, youth and entrepreneurship, savings and technology. Registration for participants in Foromic starts on 1 June.

FOMIN is inviting organizations and institutions to submit proposals for content and speakers for different sessions at Foromic 2011 with the aim of defining a relevant subject and relevant agenda. Proposals must be submitted no later than June 10, for more information visit:

Costa Rica Signs Agreement for $2 million to MSEs

$250 Million for Micro-financing Institutions

An agreement between international organizations will provide up to $250 million in loans for Latin America's micro-financing entities.

The agreement was signed by Multilateral Investment Fund (Fomin), part of Inter-american Development Bank (IDB), Inter-American Investment Corporation (CII), Andean Development Corporation (CAF), Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and Blue Orchard Finance.

$26.8 Million For Small and Medium Businesses in Nicaragua

With the fund provided by the Inter-American Development Bank (BID, acronym in Spanish), 29 projects will be executed for small and medium businesses.

The Multilateral Investment Fund (FOMIN, acronym in Spanish) is the organization in charge of executing the business initiatives.

Development of Tourism in Northern Guatemala

MIF will finance the study of the project for the benefit of 300 micro-enterprise and community tourism projects.

The agreement between the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Foundation for the Development of Guatemala (FUNDESA), allocated $1,337,780 to implement the “Definition and Management of a Tourist Destination in the North Cluster of the Cuatro Balam Area, in Petén."
