The groups with the highest contribution to the variation of the CPI in July were: Food and non-alcoholic drinks and Transport. Of the 315 goods and services that make up the consumer basket, 48% increased in price, 36% decreased in price and 16% did not change.  Click to interact with graphicsClick to interact with graphics

In July the goods and services that had the greatest positive effect were: tomatos, sweet peppers and onions. On the other hand, culantro, gasoline and automobiles were among the main ones with the greatest negative effect.

In the month July of the last ten years, the highest year-on-year percentage change occurred in 2008 with 14.17%; while 2015 was the year with the only negative interannual variation (-0.32%) recorded.

In September, the Consumer Price Index reported a 2.5% year-on-year variation, down from 2.9% in August.

Of the 315 goods and services that make up the consumption basket, 50% increase in price, 39% decreased in price and 11% showed no variation, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses.

Food and Beverages Push Up Inflation

During July in Costa Rica, the Consumer Price Index reported a 2.9% year-on-year variation, a rise that is partly explained by the behavior of food and non-alcoholic beverage prices.

Of the 315 goods and services that make up the consumption basket, 61% increased in price, 35% decreased in price and 4% showed no variation, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses.

In July, the CPI recorded a monthly variation of 0.28%, mainly explained by the prices recorded in the Food and non-alcoholic beverages and Entertainment and culture sectors.
