Representatives of the Asociación Gremial Empresarial de Exportadores e Importadores de Frutas y Verduras de El Salvador (AGEIFVES), estimate that losses caused by delays in customs procedures could reach up to 50%.

Guatemala Exports More Fruits and Vegetables

In the first semester of 2018, official figures show an increase of 15% in sales abroad of fruits and 23% in those of legumes and vegetables.

Data from Banco de Guatemala indicates that "... Sales of fresh, dried or frozen fruit reached US $197.6 million from January to June, US $26.1 million more than in the same period in 2017. Pulses reported US $114.9 million, US $21.1 million more than last year."

Tender for purchase of Food for $1.4 million

The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad is putting out to tender the purchase of vegetables for the Reventazón Hydroelectric Project.

The purchase, worth $1,397,600, includes among other things, avocados, ripe bananas, onions, sweet potatoes, broccoli, sweet pumpkin, tangerines, red and gala apples, peaches, potatoes, beets, cabbage, sweet pineapples, cucumbers, green papayas, sweet pears, peeled fresh hearts of palm, oregano, red cabbage, squash, green beans, fresh cassava, carrots and cantaloupes.
