Costa Rica Passes Food Safety Bill

The decree seeks to guarantee that produced or sold food products comply with minimum quality requirements.

Mario Montero, vice president of the Food Industry Chamber, considers that the law is a very important step in the right direction, in a sector where regulation is still a big mess.

“The decree, however, does not address the excessive number of bureaucratic procedures. ‘The proposal could be reformed to eliminate paperwork requirements for companies, focusing instead in control and verification policies for informal or clandestine producers’ added Montero”.
