Costa Rica Opens Trade Office in Qatar

The Foreign Trade Corporation of Costa Rica has officially opened its trade promotion office in Doha, in order to expand opportunities for domestic exporters.

From a statement issued by the Foreign Trade Promotion Office of Costa Rica (PROCOMER):

Monday 9 May, the Foreign Trade Promotion Office of Costa Rica (PROCOMER) has officially opened its first trade promotion office in Doha, Qatar. With this new trading arm in the Middle East the aim is to expand opportunities for domestic exporters and diversify export destinations in the country.

The opening was attended by the Chairman of the Board of PROCOMER and Minister of Foreign Trade, Alexander Mora; Ambassador of Costa Rica in Qatar, Luis Guillen; and General Manager of PROCOMER, Pedro Beirute Prada.

The new site will operate in Madrid on the same premises currently occupied by the Embassy of Costa Rica in the European country.

The Foreign Trade Promotion Office will close the trade promotion office which operated for three years in London and will move to Spain.

According to representatives of PROCOMER, the decision is due to several factors, including greater cultural affinity, prospects for economic recovery and a potential market of 40 million people.

Opportunities in the Arab country have been announced for chutneys, organic coffee, pastries, organic tuna, dried fruits, plants, flowers and foliage.

The Foreign Trade Promotion Office (PROCOMER) has opened a trade promotion office in Qatar. Alvaro Stone, director of Exports at the office, informed Nacion.com that an official has been based in the premises of the Embassy of Costa Rica in that country since late last year.
