Regulations on Food Production in Costa Rica

Technical regulations on the "General Principles of Good Food Manufacturing Practices" have been updated.

In December 2013, the Institute of Technical Standards of Costa Rica (Inteco) updated and approved a tool which establishes the controls and requirements for all processes in the food manufacturing chain.

From a press release issued by the Institute of Technical Standards of Costa Rica (Inteco):

In order to provide all national citizens and businesses with a tool to ensure that the food they buy, produce and distribute is fit for human consumption, the Institute of Technical Standards of Costa Rica (INTECO) has updated and approved the technical standard INTE 02-01-03:2013 "General Principles of Good Food Manufacturing Practices."

As explained by Mauricio Céspedes, CEO of INTECO, this voluntary standard was updated in December and establishes the general requirements of hygiene and good manufacturing practices that must be met during food handling in order to ensure that these do not represent any risk to the health of the end consumer.

The Administrative Committee of the brand "Essential Costa Rica" will authorize its use according to the recommendations of trained analysts at the Institute of Technical Standards.

The Institute of Technical Standards of Costa Rica (Inteco) will be the body which will train staff who will be able to use the national brand of Costa Rica.
