The Ministry of Agriculture will be starting the process of making maps with morphological description of soils, registration and documentation, and their geographical location.

Tuesday, February 21, 2017

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture:

The National Institute for Innovation and Transfer of Agricultural Technology (INTA), will in March, start teaching and training 20 new employees at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), who will be in charge of mapping the soils on 25,000 square kilometers of territory in cantons bordering the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, at a scale of 1: 50,000. Subsequently the mapping is expected to be continued throughout the national territory.

The information to be gathered consists of the morphological description of soils, registration and documentation, and their geographical location. The data collected will be used to create a database, which will enable the construction of digital maps, which will be published in the official newspaper La Gaceta, canton by canton, so they can be used immediately by local governments, as well as other institutions that require this information to improve the management of terrestrial maritime areas in the country.
