Costa Rica: Inflation in March at 2.46%

The cumulative change in the first quarter of 2013 of the General Index was 2.46%, 0.86% higher than this variation in the same period last year.

March 2013

The National Institute of Statistics and Census has reported on the main results of the March of 2013 Consumer Price Index.

The overall level of the Consumer Price Index in March is 160.531, which is a variation of 0.11% compared with the index for the month of February (with a value of 160.356).

• The cumulative variation for the three months of the year (January to March 2013) of the General Index is 2.46%, higher than this variation in the same period last year (0.86%).

• The cumulative change in the period April 2012 to March 2013 of the General Index is 6.21%, higher than the variation in the same period last year (4.21%).

In March the groups having the highest positive change in prices when compared to the variation of the general index (0.11%) were:
• Items for housing and domestic services
• Health
• Transportation
• Education
• Miscellaneous goods and services

Following the trend of the last five months, in March the consumer price index fell by 0.91%, putting annual inflation at -1.09%, and inflation accumulated so far this year at -0.26%.

The Institute of Statistics and Census analyzes the behavior shown during 2013 in the prices of goods and services.

Between January and December 2013, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) registered a variation of 3.68 %. The consumer goods groups that influenced the cumulative change the most were communications, food and beverages, education and residential properties.

Costa Rica: Inflation in April was 0.73%

May 2013

The general level of the consumer price index in April had a variation of 0.73% compared with the index for the month of March.

Slight Decrease in Inflation Rate

April 2012

In Costa Rica the cumulative change in the period April 2011 to March 2012 in the General Index of Consumer Prices is 4.21% less than the variation in the same period last year (4.58%).
