Costa Rica: Inflation 0.62% in March

Annual inflation accumulated in March reached 3.26%, driven by increases in articles for the home and domestic services, transportation and entertainment.

From a press release issued by the National Institute of Statistics:

"In March the groups with the highest positive change in prices when compared with the general index (0.62%) were:

Goods for housing and domestic service

-Transportation

MONTHLY VARIATION

The prices of goods and services in the month of March recorded an increase of 0.62% compared to the prices observed in the month of February.

The CPI consumption basket consists of 292 goods and services, of which 67% increased price compared to the previous month, 24% decreased, and the remaining 9% remained unchanged.

In November, consumer groups which had the greatest influence the monthly variation of the General Index were:

.Transport, mainly due to the increase in gasoline prices, vehicle acquisition, transportation in taxi and vehicle tires.

.Items for the home and domestic service.

.Entertainment and culture, mainly due to the increase in the price of package tours.

In December 2014, the consumer price index recorded a monthly decline of 0.21%, closing the year at 5.13%, well above inflation of 3.68% recorded in 2013.

In July the general price index rose by 0.91%, with the Rent and Housing Services, and Transport being the two groups which increased the most.

May 2013

The general level of the consumer price index in April had a variation of 0.73% compared with the index for the month of March.
