Costa Rica: Growth in Trade in Medical Devices

In 2016 the export of cosmetic, dental, cardiovascular, and endoscopy goods and others generated revenues of $2.556 billion, equivalent to 26% of the total exported by the country.

The export value of manufactured medical and precision equipment exceeded $2.5 billion, almost matching exports reported by the agricultural sector, which totaled $2.69 billion last year.

Nacion.com reports that "...The life science sector exports products from Costa Rica in areas such as medical aesthetics, cardiovascular, endoscopy, dental, neuro-endovascular, neuromodulation, optical, orthopedic, sports medicine and surgical diagnosis, detailed the Costa Rican coalition for Development Initiatives (CINDE), an agency that promotes investment coming into the country."

"... A report requested by the CINDE said that Costa Rica has around 70 companies in this group established here. That number of companies already employs 21,436 people and last year alone 2,776 new jobs were created, said a spokesperson for the Coalition."
