Costa Rica: Foreign Trade Figures - I Semester 2017

Between July 2016 and June 2017, exports of precision and medical equipment, rubber, agricultural products, and metallurgical products increased by 15%, 8%, 7% and 23%, respectively, compared to the previous 12 months.

The sectors that showed the most notable growth in exports (July 2016 - June 2017 vs. July 2015 - June 2016) were precision and medical equipment, with an increase of US $347 million (+ 14.7%); the agricultural sector, which has continued to improve its performance after unfavorable climatic events in previous periods and showed an increase of US $193 million (+ 7.6%); metalmechanics, which recorded increased  sales, of US $72 million (+ 23.1%); the food industry, which sold US $41 million more (+ 4.4%); the electric and electronic sector, which increased by US $34 million (+ 6.4%); rubber which increased by US $19 million (+ 8.5%); and chemical-pharmaceuticals which sold US $15 million more (+ 2.4%).

Exports of goods accumulated in the 12 months between July 2016 and June 2017 amounted to US $10,313 million, which was US $763 million (+ 8.0%) higher than the amount registered between July 2015 and June of 2016, surpassing by US $1,257 million (+ 13.9%) the average of the last four inter-annual periods (July-June).

Costa Rica: Improving Export Figures

September 2017

Exports accumulated between January and August of this year grew by 9% compared to the same period in 2016, going from $6.618 million to $7.19 billion.

Procomer statistics indicate that the accumulated amount of $7.19 billion is the highest in the last five years. Exports made by companies operating under the free zone regime increased by 13%, while those outside of the special regime increased by 4%.

Between January and June, exports grew at an annualized rate of 6%, reaching $2.827 billion, $159 million more than in the first half of 2014.

From a statement issued by the Central Bank of El Salvador:

Export activity has been increasing so far this year. In June the performance of the sector closed with a growth rate of 6% per annum, having exported US $2.8271 billion, representing an increase of US $159.2 million compared to the first half of last year, the Central Bank reported.

Exports from the region registered a FOB value of U.S. $2.478 billion, an increase of 5.7% compared to the $2.344 billion exported during the same month last year.

There are 46 companies in Costa Rica in the medical industry whose exports in the first 10 months of 2012 totaled $1.24 billion.
