The production of goods and services in the country, measured by the trend cycle series of the Monthly Economic Activity Index, recorded in December 2016 an average of 4.1% and 4.3% inter annually and mid year respectively (4.1% and 4.5% in their respective order in 2015).Click to interact with graphicsClick to interact with graphics

Meanwhile, the indicator for the production of goods and services without Free Zone status, reached an annual rate in the trend cycle of 3.7%, higher than the 2.6% seen in the same period in the previous year.

Most activities saw a greater dynamism, reflected in the contribution to the annual rate of the overall indicator in December 2016. Highlights include service industries (56.4% of the variation), followed by manufacturing (19.5%) and, to a lesser extent, construction activities (17.1%) and agriculture (6.9%).

Inflation
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed an annual variation of 6.20% in December 2011, 0.81 percentage points higher than in the previous year (5.39%).

Economic Activity in Costa Rica Slows

Economic activity measured by IMAE showed a slight increase in November 2010, growing at an annual rate of 1.9%.

Although, extending comparison periods shows a slowdown compared to the annual growth in July, August and September, when the indicator showed 4.3%, 4.1% and 3.1% respectively.

The Monthly Economic Activity Index, which reflects the performance of the economy, showed minimal growth during October.

Its value from the previous month increased 0.07 percentage points. In turn, the annual change (October 2009 - October 2010) shows the weakest growth this year, 2.9%.
