Costa Rica: Design of Road Works Awarded for $2 million

The award has been made for the design of the widening to four lanes of the 50 km stretch of road to the company Asociación de Profesionales S.A. de C.V y Synconsults S.L, in the amount of $2,108,788.

After approval was given for the $450 million loan from the IDB, an announcement was made for the award of the design of the enlargement of the section through which around 13,000 vehicles will pass per day, and for which the company has a 12-month period to complete it.

Crhoy.com reports that "... The expansion of the Barranca-Cañas section is one of the priority projects, according to the Consensus Group, as it is the Inter American highway along which an important part of trade goes on its way to the northern border. It serves as the main gateway to Guanacaste where tourists are concentrated during peak season. "

"... There are currently enlargement works being carried out on the Cañas-Liberia stretch, but we are still awaiting a definition for the extension of 20 kilometers between Limonal and Cañas so that both projects can be connected."

Costa Rica: $183 Million in Road Works Awarded

Hernan Solis SRL and Ingenieria Estrella S.A. won the contract to widen 50 kilometres of the road from Barranca to Limonal, and 3 kilometres from La Angostura, between El Roble and Barrio El Carmen, in the province of Puntarenas.

The works on the Interamericana Norte will last 30 months, from the start order, while the extension of La Angostura should be ready in a 12 months’ period, informed the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT).

In Panama, FCC Construcción and Operadora Cicsa will be in charge of the expansion works to six lanes of the Las Playas Corridor, on the Santa Cruz - San Carlos section.

The companies that took part in the tender for the extension of the road sections were the Consortium FCC-Corredor de Las Playas II, composed of FCC Construcción S.A.

Contract with Odebrecht Ended and New Tender Launched

The government of Guatemala has agreed with the Brazilian construction company to bring forward the termination of contract for extending the CA-2 Occidente highway and will launch a tender for three contracts to complete the remaining 97-kilometer stretch.

The contract was awarded to construction company Odebrecht in 2012, and after the corruption cases the that it was involved in came to light, the government of Guatemala decided to negotiate the early termination of the contract. The head of the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV), Aldo García, told Elperiodico.com.gt that "... because of the reservation there has been over the investigation of this case, it can only be anticipated that the agreement reached with the company is under legal review, a company which in 2012 obtained the contract for the extension of the CA-2 Occidente highway for US $399 million."

Panama: Highway Expansion Announced

The Ministry of Public Works will be building an additional lane on the stretch of road from Bugaba to David on the Inter-American highway in the province of Chiriqui.

The road expansion works is added to improvement works at the entrance and exit of the Regional Hospital in David and the Autonomous University of Chiriqui.
