Costa Rica: CPI Increases 2.96% up to September

The National Institute of Statistics and Census has released a report on the main results of the Consumer Price Index for the month of September 2012.

September showed a variation of 0.07% compared with the index for the month of August, while the cumulative change in the last twelve months of the General Index is 4.47%, less than the variation of the same period last year (5.17%).

A statement from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) reads:

September 2012

The general level of Consumer Price Index in 5etiembre is 154.305, which is a variation of 0.07% compared with the index for the month of August (with a value of 154.198).
In the cumulative variation for nine months (January to September 2012] the general Index is 2.96%, less than the variation in the same period last year (3.23%).
The cumulative change in the period October 2011 to 5etiembre 2012 for the general Index is 4.47%, less than the variation in the same period last year (5.17%).

In September the groups with the highest positive change in prices when compared to the variation of the general index (0.07%) are:

- Alcohol and cigarettes
- Food and beverages consumed outside the home
- Rental housing and services
- Article for the Home and domestic services
- Health

The cumulative change in the period November 2011 to October 2012 of the General Index is 4.68%, less than the variation in the same period last year (4.93%).

Slight Decrease in Inflation Rate

April 2012

In Costa Rica the cumulative change in the period April 2011 to March 2012 in the General Index of Consumer Prices is 4.21% less than the variation in the same period last year (4.58%).
