Costa Rica Buys More Electrical Transformers

From January to September 2017, companies in Costa Rica bought $51 million worth of electrical transformers from abroad, 28% more than in the same period in 2016.

Variation of regional imports  
Between the first nine months of 2016 and 2017 the import value of transformers and electric converters and reactors in Costa Rica registered an increase of 28%, rising from $40 million bought in 2016 to $51 million in 2017.

For the periods in question, the value imported from China increased by 17%, going from $6.7 million in 2016 to $7.9 million in 2017. 

Origin of imports 
From January to September 2017, 44% of the value imported from Costa Rica came from the USA, 16% from China, 8% from Mexico, 7% from Switzerland, 6% from Colombia and 5% from Thailand. 

Monthly imports
Between January 2012 and September 2017, the value of purchases abroad ranged between $3.2 million and $10.2 million.
