Costa Rica: Business Confidence Cools

In the second of Deloitte's 'Business Barometer Surveys' companies are shown to be less enthusiastic than four months ago.

Employers opinions on the status of the Costa Rican economy, their company's situation and its outlook for the coming year remain largely positive. However, they are somewhat more cautious than four months ago.

Deloitte asked 176 of Costa Rica's biggest companies to respond on questions relating to the business climate, local and regional expectations, and employment trends with the aim of giving the sector a summary of local economy's status.

Of those surveyed, 52% believe that the current economic situation is better than a year ago while 36% say there has been no change and 10.8% think things have got worse. While this demonstrates a generally positive outlook, compared to march the percentage of respondents who believe that the current situation has improved is less.

According to data collected during the ninth edition of Deloitte Business Barometer conducted in October and November, the results show a deterioration in the vision of entrepreneurs regarding the economy compared to May-14 survey.

Panamanian Businessmen Optimistic About Future

63% of 141 surveyed companies expect to generate more revenue in 2010 than they did in 2009.

This figure was one of the results of a business survey conducted by Cciap, the Panamanian Chamber of Agriculture, Industry and Commerce, in the first quarter of 2010.

“58% of the surveyed companies were more optimistic regarding the local economy, and 52% believe that the country will attract more foreign investment, thanks to an improved economic climate”, reported Prensa.com.
