Costa Rica: 4.21% Year over year Inflation up to May

In May the consumer price index rose by 0.53%, with food and non-alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, alcoholic beverages and various service groups having the largest increases.

The National Institute of Statistics and Census reports on the main results of the Consumer Price Index for the month of April 2014.

In December the groups which had the highest positive variation in prices when compared with the general index (0.53%) were:

Food and non-alcoholic beverages
Alcoholic beverages and cigarettes
Transportation
Miscellaneous goods and services

MONTHLY VARIATION

Prices of goods and services in the month of May recorded an increase of 0.53% compared to the prices observed in the month of April.

The CPI consumption basket consists of 292 goods and services, of which 61% increase in price compared to the previous month, 26% decreased, and the remaining 13% remained unchanged.

Inter annual inflation up to June reached 4.59%, with food groups and non-alcoholic beverages, alcoholic beverages and cigarettes, health and transport having the largest increases.

The overall level of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June is 169.180, which is a variation of 0.38% compared with the rate in May (with a value of 168.537).
