Costa Rica: Airport Concession in Liberia Could be Extended

The current concessionaire of the air terminal has presented an application for an extension of the concession contract, and subsequently to assume works on expansion of the airport.

Wednesday, August 2, 2017

The company Coriport submitted an application in January to extend the concession contract it has held since 2010 for the operation of the international airport of Liberia in Guanacaste. If the proposal succeeds, the company will take on"... the renovation of the runway, construction of the taxiway for the aircraft to prepare for take-off, spaces for aircraft parking and new drains, among other things."

Nacion.com reports "...The company did not want to disclose the details of the proposal related to the amount of the works nor the additional term that it will need when in charge of the airport to recover the investment. "The interest (for running the runway) arose after some informal talks between members of Cetac ... We took on the task of presenting a first proposal last January 30 (...). The idea is for us to take over the aerial side in exchange for some investments and that is all I can say because the rest is being negotiated," said the general manager of Coriport."

"... The Civil Aviation Technical Council (Cetac) has estimated that improvements to the airport's runway would cost approximately $100 million."
