Costa Rica: $19 Million in Social Housing Project

Project “Condominios El Guarial” comprises 35 apartment blocks in Alajuelita, San José.

The project, now being studied by Banhvi, the Home Mortgage Bank, is being carried out by Costa Rica – Canada Foundation, and will be built by “Constructora Himalaya”.

It seeks to provide housing to 560 low income families.

“The project will be built in a 36.000 square meter lot, 300 meters west and 100 south of the local cemetery”, reported Nacion.com.

El Salvador: $165 million for Residential Project

It has been announced that during the third quarter of 2018 work will start on construction of a residential compound consisting of 5,500 homes, and its first stage will begin in the municipality of Usulután.

The companies that will be participating in the project, which will run for three years and will be developed at the national level, are Investment and Development El Salvador (Nami), Asinesa El Salvador and UyD Constructora. In the first stage 800 houses will be built, which will have three bedrooms, and a bathroom, kitchen, living and dining room, in a total area of 50 square meters.

The idea is to build houses worth less than $20,000 in order to facilitate the purchase of decent houses by low income families.

This solution is currently being discussed by representatives of private companies, banks and the Nicaraguan government and an agreement could be reached within weeks, reports Laprensa.com.ni.

They were built to be sold using government subsidies, but an increase in the cost of building materials has pushed their real price above the limit established by the law.

The Government is maintaining its position of not raising the price ceiling of $20 000, stating that this would not benefit poor families, but recognizes that it must find a solution to the problem.

Panama: Social Housing Program

A solidarity housing fund was announced by the President, when inaugurating trade show "Capac Expo Hábitat 2009".

Ricardo Martinelli announced the creation of the “Fondo Solidario de Vivienda”, which would benefit 1.500 families in its first phase.

The president also remarked that his government will continue supporting the Panamanian Chamber of Construction, and invited its members to take part of his social housing project.
