The works on the Interamericana Norte will last 30 months, from the start order, while the extension of La Angostura should be ready in a 12 months’ period, informed the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT).

Rodolfo Méndez Mata, head of the MOPT, said that they hope that "... there will be no major setbacks in the finalization of the award, so that work can begin, at the latest, in the second half of this year."

These works, which will pass from 2 to 4 lanes in both routes, will be financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The project designs include the expansion, construction of a promenade with sidewalks and bicycle paths and safety features for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

The Barranca-Limonal project will have a lower cost than the sections Barranca-San Gerardo and San Gerardo-Limonal, so the decision to cancel the previous process is validated with the result of a lower cost.
