Convention Tourism in Panama

On June 21 and 22 local and foreign tourist companies will be meeting to discuss issues such as using technology as a tool for promotion and hearing about successful experiences from other countries.

From a statement issued by the Tourism Authority of Panama:

The Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) and the Panamanian Chamber of Tourism (CAMTUR) will be holding from June 21 to 22 the first National Tourism Convention "Juntos por Panama" (CONATUR), to establish a strategy with all stakeholders in the sector, which will strengthen the country's tourism supply.

The administrator of the ATP, Gustavo Him, said that during the two days they will discuss the current situation of the tourism sector, with the aim of agreeing criteria for the promotion of Panama at a national and international level.

At the National Tourism Convention, which will be held from June 28 to 29, the main theme will be the importance of training in the sector.

Conventions Fuel Tourism in Panama

On average, each person attending a convention injects $300 per day into the Panamanian economy, for accommodation, shopping, food and transport.

According to the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP), since the beginning of last year up until now there have been approximately 200 conferences in the country. The conventions in 2012 alone generated for the country between $45 and $50 million in foreign exchange.

Hoteliers from Copan are disappointed with the lack of official promotion of the area to commemorate the end of the Mayan year in the month of December.

While Guatemala hotels near Mayan ruins have reservations for 100% of their rooms for those dates, hotels in Copan recorded just 40%.

Guatemala Betting On Puerto Rican Tourism

October's Convention of Puerto Rican Travel Agencies in Guatemala expects to increase tourism from the island in up to 30%.

From September 30 to October 5, within the International Convention of the Puerto Rican Association of Travel Agencies (APAV), over 120 travel agencies will visit several touristic spots in Guatemala.
