Tender for Convention Center in Panama

May 2017

In order to encourage business tourism and congresses in the area, plans are being made to tender the design and construction of a convention center in Boquete, in the province of Chiriquí.

The Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) has announced that they have already done the legal transfer of the lands where a "green" convention center will be built, with capacity for 2,000 people. The objective of the ATP is to boost the business of tourism and congresses in the province of Chiriquí.

Expansion of Amador Convention Center

June 2016

In order for the building to have better conditions to accommodate large scale events, the original design has been modified to expand the leasable space to 30,000 square meters and include more parking spaces.

Authorities from the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) and representatives of the consortium CCA-Cocige, in charge of resuming the work which had been on hold since December 2014, have unveiled details of the new design for the convention center, which will be three times bigger than Atlapa.

The ATP said that the redesign does not change the cost of the work, which remains at $193.7 million and still leaves a construction area at 58 thousand square meters, of which 30,000 square meters are "salable areas for different types of events. The total capacity of the building is 25,000 people. "

In the statement issued by the ATP, the hierarch, Gustavo Him, notes that ".... the main reasons for the redesign are to improve the functionality of the project, implement advanced technologies and, occasionally, to focus the project towards the growing and thriving industry of conferences and conventions, which brings into the country annual revenues of $700 million. 'More exhibition areas have been gained, taking into account the current need for the country to have a more competitive convention center with larger areas for conventions with around 1,700 parking spaces.' "

"... The work is currently 33% complete, corresponding to the construction of foundations and the building structure, which in the new design makes full use of the money invested in the project so far. The new design includes expanding the areas for exhibitions and having a main hall for fairs and exhibitions measuring 15,000 m2. "
