Egg Consumption in Nicaragua

The producers' association reports a 130% growth in the per capita consumption in the last ten years, increasing from 60 units in 2007 to 138 units this year.

The figures indicate that   "... annual egg consumption per capita grew by 130% between 2007 and 2017, going from 60 to 138 units. Domestic production also increased, as in 2013 there were 50,000 boxes per day, but this year the figure grew to 74,000."

Although the consumption of eggs in Nicaragua is not yet comparable to that of other countries in the region, the Nicaraguan Egg Commission (CNH) says that in recent years the upward trend has been maintained, with annual growth close to 10%. 

Regarding the consumption of eggs in the other Central American countries, Alfonso Valerio, spokesman of the CNH, explained to that   "... Costa Rica, for example, has an annual per capita consumption of more than 200 units.  For their part, Mexicans consume 400 and in Asian countries their citizens eat 400 units each year."

In the first half the year slaughter went up by 6% compared to the same period in 2014, and the industry expects to end 2015 with an annual increase of 8%.

In the case of egg production the increase during the first half of the year compared to the same period of 2014 was 11%, according to figures from the Central Bank of Nicaragua.
