Construction of the tourist center authorized

The Salvadoran government approved the construction of Plaza Marinera, which will have a 10,000 m2 area and will be in La Libertad Port.

The El Salvador Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) reported that Plaza Marinera will be built within a year and the work will require an investment of approximately $5.6 million. According to the authorities, the resort is expected to receive more than one million national and international tourists per year.

" The Plaza Marinera's design follows the approach of tourist accessibility, since it presents structural elements that facilitate the flow of visitors, wide spaces for the circulation of product suppliers, areas destined to rest and food consumption" explained the Minister of Tourism, José Napoleón Duarte Durán.

The Mitur press release details that the complex will have a gastronomic square that will include 20 venues for restaurants; a food area with a capacity of 1,200 chairs; 12 venues for sales of minutes; 11 venues for crafts, coconuts and miscellaneous sales; public health services and employees; general warehouses and ATMs.

A seafood lounge will also be available in which there will be 84 places for seafood sales; 6 places for cocktail sales; filleting area, loading and unloading area, storage room for ice sales, marine products warehouse, sanitary services and administrative offices.

$200 Million Investment in Tourism Announced

The Canyon Group plans to invest more than $200 million in the construction of its first resort in Central America, which will be on the Papagayo Peninsula in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Travis and Lucas Boychuk, promoters of the tourism project that will be located in Gavilán beach, reported that for the tourism development called "Surf Ranch Hotel & Resort-Emerald Coast Popoyo", they will be building condominiums, apartments, restaurants, an events center, commercial premises, swimming pools, a spa, casino, gym and other amenities.

Private Tourism Investment in Panama Canal

A tender is being launched for the design of a master plan that will define how private tourism investment can be made within the grounds of the Canal and its area of ​​operations.

The aim is to better exploit the tourism potential of the waterway and generate more income through tourism activities in the Canal area.  The Panama Canal Authority is analyzing creating a tourism concessions scheme, so that private companies that meet the conditions required by the ACP can make investments in the Canal area. In response to interest shown by the private sector, the ACP plans to launch a tender for a master plan to define how this private investment scheme would work.
