Construction and Management of Highway Awarded

In Guatemala, the Consortium Autopistas de Guatemala was awarded a contract for the renovation and management of the Escuintla-Puerto Quetzal highway, with toll collection.

In this concession for the administration of the highway, the companies which had been pre-qualified and which submitted their proposals were Consorcio Autopistas de Guatemala, Mota-Engil Latin America and Anas International Enterprise.

In the proposals received by the National Council of Partnerships for the Development of Economic Infrastructure (Anadie) at the beginning of July, the Consortium Autopistas de Guatemala offered to deliver to the State the 5% canon that must be shared plus an additional 36.1%. For their parts, Mota-Engil Latin America and Anas International Enterprise, offered to give 3% and 2%, more than what is established, respectively.   

The resolution of the contest, which was published on Friday July 13 on the Guatecompras website, details that " ... the Evaluation Commission, unanimously awarded the project of alliances for the development of economic infrastructure called: "Renovation, Administration, Operation, Maintenance and Complimentary Works of the Escuintla-Puerto Quetzal Highway with toll collection," to the bidder Consorcio Autopistas de Guatemala, for having presented the best conditions for the State of Guatemala. "

The project includes the 2 highways that make up the Escuintla-Puerto Quetzal road section of the Central American route identified as CA-9 South "A", complementary works and other infrastructure to raise it to the highway level, as well as the administration, management, maintenance and operation of the Project, which guarantees the services of trafficability to the quality, reliability, continuity and safety standards required.

More than two years ago, Convía won the contest to rehabilitate and operate the Escuintla-Puerto Quetzal highway in Guatemala. However, the Congress of the Republic, which is in chaos due to a new political crisis, has not yet defined whether to approve the PPP or not.

The National Council of Partnerships for the Development of Economic Infrastructure (Anadie) received the economic offers yesterday for the "Renovation, Administration, Operation, Maintenance and Complementary Works of the Escuintla - Puerto Quetzal Highway with Toll Collection", and according to the authorities they expect to finish the hiring process in the month of July.
