Cono Sur wines arrive in Costa Rica

Costa Ricans will have a new wine enjoyment option with the arrival of the Cono Sur, says Adolfo Hurtado, oenologist and general manager of the Viña.

He saysthat Viña Cono Sur is an affiliate of Concha y Toro, a brand that has been very successful with Holtermann in Costa Rica. Based on this prestige, he says, the company decided to take its products to Costa Rica.

Ortega to boost investment in free-trade zones, business sources say

President Daniel Ortega's government told free-trade zone companies that it will promote investment in the sector, according to business sources.

"President Ortega has promised to give us more incentives," said Alvaro Baltodano, president of the Nacional Corporation of Free Trade zones. Baltodano said Ortega had told business leaders that more investment was needed to create jobs.

Guatemalan Vice-President Rafael Espada flew out on a visit to Taiwan and Korea, promising to "think big" and shake off Guatemala's inferiority complex.

Chinese mission considers the possibility of setting up an industrial park in Costa Rica

An official mission from China met today with Costa Rican officials to consider the possibility of establishing a technological and industrial park in Costa Rica.

The Chinese delegation is headed by Zheng Guoan, the Under Secretary General of China's Ministry of Science and Technology.

New Free Trade Zone in Costa Rica

Costa Rican President Oscar Arias Sánchez and Foreign Trade Minister Marco Vincio Ruíz today inaugurated the new free trade zone of the east. Three multinational firms are already taking part: Teletech, TechDada and Countrywide Financial. They employ a total of 1,340 workers.

"Just last year we received 1.885 million dollars from this kind of investment," said Arias.
