Congress on Wholesale Trade in Agriculture

On December 2 a conference will be held in Liberia, Costa Rica, on trends and characteristics of the wholesale marketing of agricultural products.

The Integral (PIMA) Agricultural Marketing Program of Costa Rica convened the event to be held on December 2 at the University of Costa Rica in Liberia, Guanacaste.

The main objective of this Congress is to analyze the system of wholesale marketing of food products in Costa Rica, to establish the implications for the national economy.

New Wholesale Market in Costa Rica

July 2019

The site is in Sardinal de Carrillo, Guanacaste. It has a construction area of 51 thousand square meters, 2 sheds and a refrigerated network of 7 chambers for product maintenance and 2 freezing tunnels.

In a statement issued by the government, it is indicated that on July 24 began operations the first stage of the Regional Wholesale Market Chorotega, in which some 6,500 producers of Guanacaste and Upala will market their products directly.

$52 million for Agricultural Market in Costa Rica

Construction has been announced of a regional market in Guanacaste, including 36 stalls for fruits and vegetables, 16 for basic grains and meats 7 bitemperated storage cupboards and 2 freezer tunnels.

The Legislative Assembly approved in the first debate, the bill to fund the Chorotega Regional Market which will benefit 400,000 inhabitants of the 11 cantons of Guanacaste and Alajuela Upala in the towns of Paquera, Jicaral, Cóbano and Lepanto Puntarenas.

Half of the capital of the wholesale supermarket chain Mayca will pass into the hands of the U.S. company Sysco Corporation.

HOUSTON and HEREDIA, Costa Rica, May 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sysco Corporation (NYSE:SYY), North America's leading foodservice distributor, today announced that it has reached an agreement to purchase 50 percent of Mayca Distribuidores S.A ("Mayca") of Costa Rica and Mayca's three other affiliates for an undisclosed price. According to the terms of the agreement, Sysco will own one-half of the stock in privately held Mayca.

Proposal to Support Panama's Agricultural Sector

January 2012

Representatives of the government and producers will submit a proposal containing the necessary tools to boost agricultural production in the country.

A press release from the Legislative Assembly reads:

Members of the Agricultural Affairs Committee of the National Assembly together with producers of rice and other items in Chiriqui and the central provinces, have agreed to form a subcommittee that will collect, within a month, proposals for the development of a document containing the necessary tools to boost agricultural production in the country.
