Congress on E-commerce Laws

The event to be held in San Jose on 3 and 4 March will address issues such as implementation of digital markets, internet commerce and protection of intellectual property online.

The third International Congress on Electronic Commerce Laws will be held at the Bar Association of Costa Rica, and will address issues related to law in light of new commercial and financial relations being handled electronically.

The conference will include lectures on the implementation of the digital market in Europe, legal challenges posed by electronics, online shopping and competition law, and financial operations in the digital world.

E-commerce in Latin America grew by 42.8% between 2010 and 2011, generating an expenditure of $43 billion, which is double the sales in 2009, according to a survey on Electronic Commerce in Latin America conducted by AméricaEconomía Intelligence, and commissioned by Visa.

Three bills boosting e-commerce are waiting to be approved at Congress in the short term.

They are the Law for Personal Data Protection, Electronic Signature Law, and the E-Commerce Law.
