Communication Radios: Purchases from Mexico Increased in 2020

Last year, countries in the region imported communication radios for $52 million, and Central American purchases from Mexican companies increased by 79% compared to what was reported in 2019.

Nicaraguan Companies, Main Buyers
In 2020 the main importing country in Central America was Nicaragua with $15 million, followed by Panama with $11 million, Costa Rica with $9 million, Guatemala with $7 million, El Salvador with $6 million and Honduras with $5 million.

Between 2019 and 2020, Nicaraguan imports were the only ones that increased, reporting a variation of 38%.

For the periods in question, Panamanian purchases decreased 18%, Guatemalan 20%, Honduran 48%, Costa Rican 55% and Salvadoran 63%.

China and the U.S., Main Suppliers
In 2020, 31% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 28% from the USA, 13% from Mexico, 3% from Hong Kong, 3% from Estonia and 2% from Malaysia.

In recent years China has been the market of origin of imports that has grown the most, since in 2012 it represented 12% of total purchases and in 2020 that proportion rose to 31%.

Regional Business Downward
Between 2019 and 2020 the imported value of communication radios in the region dropped 33%, decreasing from $78 million to $52 million.

In contrast to the behavior of purchases in general, for the years under analysis, imports from Mexico increased 79%, going from $4 million to $8 million.

In the first nine months of 2020, the countries of the region imported communication radios for $39 million, and Central American purchases from Mexican companies increased by 36% compared to what was reported in the same period of 2019.

January 2019

In the first six months of 2018, countries in the region imported $69 million worth of communication radios, 16% more than what was purchased in the same period in 2017.
