Communication Radios: 16% Increase in Imports

In the first six months of 2018, countries in the region imported $69 million worth of communication radios, 16% more than what was purchased in the same period in 2017.

Imports by country
From January to June last year, the largest importing country in Central America was Costa Rica with $23 million, followed by Honduras with $21 million, Panama with $10 million, El Salvador with $7 million, Guatemala with $5 million and Nicaragua with $4 million.

Origin of imports
In the first half of 2018, 25% of the value imported from Central America was from Hong Kong, 24% from the US, 17% from Israel, 15% from China and 2% from Mexico.

In the first half of the last seven years, Hong Kong has been the fastest-growing source market for imports, accounting for 7% of total purchases in 2012 and 25% in 2018.

Variation in regional imports
Between the first semester of 2017 and the same period of 2018, the imported value of communication radios in the region increased 16%, growing from $60 million to $69 million.
