Coffee: Honduras Leads in Exports

For the second quarter of 2021, Honduras was the main seller of coffee in the Central American region with $723 million, equivalent to 35% of exports.

Honduras, Main Seller
During the second quarter of 2021, the leading exporter of coffee in Central America was Honduras with $723.1 million, followed by Guatemala with $468.2 million, followed by Nicaragua with $343.7 million, Costa Rica with $219.7 million, followed by El Salvador with $83.2 million and Panama with $10.4 million.

Variation of Regional Exports
Between the first half of 2020 and 2021, the value exported from the region increased 12%, from $1,852 million to $2,071 million.

Rising Export Prices
The average price of regional coffee exports has registered an upward trend, rising from $3.23 per kilo in the first half of 2020 to $3.84 in June 2021.

Destination of Exports
In the second quarter of 2021, 37% of the value exported from Central America was destined for the USA, 15% for Germany, 11% for Belgium and 5% for Canada and Italy.
