Cinemas in Central America: $16 million Investment Plans

The chain Cinepolis plans to open four new theaters in 2015 in Guatemala, one in Honduras, two in Panama and 30 new screens at a shopping center in Costa Rica.

Parallel to this expansion plan in the region, representatives from the Mexican chain Cinepolis said they are evaluating whether to make new investments in El Salvador, where they already have a 43% share in the cinema market.

Luis Monestel, company manager for Central America, told Elsalvador.com that "... In Central America, where the chain has 18 cinemas with a total of 141 screens, Cinepolis has had marked growth because in several countries construction of new commercial infrastructure projects are being implemented."

"... In the Honduran market, the plan is to open a movie theater in San Pedro Sula. Currently, Cinepolis has a complex with 10 rooms. In Costa Rica, the Mexican company plans to open 30 screens in a shopping center which will operate in the area of ​​Santa Ana. The screen rooms will cost $5.5 million and are expected to be completed in October this year. In this country they have three complexes with 29 screens."

Miguel Mier, chief operating officer at Cinépolis, said the complex has capacity for 1757 people, and includes a screen with XE Macro technology, which cost $850,000.
